TRIP TO WOODLANDS WATERFRONT 280911
A week before, our form-teacher informed us about a CIP at the Woodlands Waterfront and provided us with information on the trip. Upon learning that no transportation would be provided, many of my friends grumbled about it. They think that the school should provide that so that we could save the 25 minutes of walk. Some even made unreasonable suggestions like maybe we should take public transport individually and leave the other classes behind. However on that day itself, it did not turned out to be as terrible as we imagined.
All secondary one students were told to assemble at the quadrangle at 3.00pm sharp but some had read the time wrongly and reported much later. In the end we had to set off at a later time and even got a tongue-lashing by the teacher-in-charge. Although the activity started badly but things got better as time pass by. We walked at a leisure pace. In fact, we were sauntering there. All of us were chatting and having an enjoyable time, except for our pitiful chairperson who was shouting throughout the journey.
“Close up the gap!”
When we arrived, we headed for our base. All of us separated ourselves into groups to collect the rubbish. At a glance, you could hardly spot any litter. As you take a closer look, cigarette butts were everywhere. One of my friends even found a cap of a container and be started to have a small Frisbee session. Time seems to fly when we were there. Soon, the time was up and we were ordered to gather at the playground before returning back to school.
Although it was a tiring trip but all of us had a pleasant time. J

THIS WEEKEND 250911
It is REALLY a boring weekend for me. I have got nothing in mind to do nor activities planned. What I did was to complete my homework. Yesterday, I checked my calendar to check the dates for the End of Year Examinations. To my surprise, it is only one week away from the LAST examinations of the year.Time flies! I realised that I have no more time to spare and I need to spend my time wisely. I planned to start my revision with History followed by Geography and Science because I think that these three subjects requires most of my memorising skills which consume more time for those definitions to be digested. I have also decided to bring my textbooks along for revision during recess rather than spending my excess time chatting since I only take about 25 minutes to eat. J I maybe doing with some of my friends to form a study group. I learnt this way of studying from my former teacher, who suggested that by doing this, studying will be much more interesting. At the same time, we can also improve on our answering techniques when one of your group mates does not understand a certain questions and needs you to explain. From now on, I shall strive to achieve satisfying grades for the EOY examinations!

MY WEAKNESS IN ENGLISH
My weakness in english is the Comprehension. Sometimes, I read the passage numerous times but I am still not quite sure of what it was trying to describe. That is also why I find inference questions a challenge. It is not because I do not understand the meaning of the words but is the arrangement of the series of events. Perhaps it is because I read too much into the passage and misunderstood the questions. Drawing pictures for the paragraph that I do not understand do help me a little : )

THE CIVIL DEFENCE COURSE
During the September Holidays, I had to return back to school quite a few times because of the CCA (The Girls’ Brigade) activities. Among these activities, I found the Civil Defence Course the most interesting and fruitful course.  For this course, my CCA teacher brought us to HQ 3rd CD Division. The fire Station has a total of 6 floors and a separated training building. One of the person-in-charges led us to the multi-purpose room. This was when the course started.
We were given a blue handbook before the first lesson started. It served as our “textbook” with all the information inside. There were a total of 5 modules.
1. Fire Safety and Casualty Evacuation
If you want to operate the extinguisher, you will have to use the PASS method. Pull out the safety pin, Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, Squeeze the lever and do Sweeping motion. Fire is a good servant but a bad master. This is why it is usually caused by careless disposal of matches and cigarette butts or children playing with lighters. When your clothes catch fire, you must stop, drop and roll but NOT run.
2. Emergency procedures
This lesson teaches us on what we should have in our ready bag.

At all times, our ready bag should contain:
        o   Torchlight
        o   Batteries
        o   Personal Medication
        o   Personal Identification/ documents
        o   Transistor Radio
        o   Whistle
        o   First Aid

3. Unconventional Threats
This lesson is about decontamination procedures in the SCDF decontamination on-site. We must first register then, undress. These are followed by showering, drying up, monitor and dressed up.
4. & 5. Basic First Aid and One-Man CPR & AED
This is when we learnt how to perform CPR and bandage. For CPR, we must perform 30 chest compressions with 2 mouth-to-mouth ventilations until the victim regains conscious. The basic steps to treating a wound are:
o   Put on protective gloves.
o   Check if there are any foreign objects in the wound.
o   If no, place a sterile gauze pad over the wound and apply firm pressure on it before securing it with bandage and elevate the injured limb.

That is all that I learnt J

TEACHERS'S DAY 2011.
On Thursday, my school held two celebrations on the same day- Teachers’ Day and Aces Day. The celebration started off with a inter class competition. Due to the space constraint in the hall, every one of us gathered in the parade square. The competition started off with the Secondary Five then the Secondary Four. I guessed it was because they had dance quite often and so their dance step were uniform which left them enough spaces to stretch their arms and legs. Fortunately, my class was one of the last in queue giving us ample time to familiarize with the dance steps. When it was our turn, we stood up anxiously getting ready for the competition. Seconds later, the song started we were confused. It just seems that most of us could not keep up with the pace and I accidentally hit one of my friends in front. I was totally in embarrassment. However, I recovered and followed closely to Mr. Chong’s dance moves. In the end, we still managed to win the title of the best dancing class. Everyone in the class was awarded a medal and the efforts we put in did pay off.
After the celebrations, I headed for my primary school in a hurry.  One of my friends was informed by the security guard that the time for Secondary School students to enter the school had been changed from 2.30 to 12.45. Many of my friends could not make it because of the change in time and I counted myself lucky for that. However, for some reasons, many of my primary school teachers were not in school. Although my teachers were not there but I did not regret rushing back to school because the delicious foods in the canteen were still there waiting for me!! : P

2011 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Last Saturday was the first presidential election that I have ever experienced. According to the commercial about this election, the procedures are the same as the general election at the earlier part of the year. Citizens who are above 21 years old must go to their appointed schools to vote for their ideal candidate. In the early morning, I was awoken by the honking of the vehicles who drop off their passenger at the road junction and crowds that headed for the school, which was near my house. Many did not bring along their belongings to avoid the long queue at the entrance. Despite the rain, many still went in enthusiastically. I questioned the adults why I am not able to vote and the answer is that I am too young to make the correct choice.

interested in the process and results. One of my active and committed Resident's Committee(RC) members rented the link hall from the RC Centre and invited all of us to join him and witness the moment when the new president is elected together. Without hesitation, I agreed to it and gathered there at about 11p.m. We waited patiently and watched the information of the presidents who are from different walks of life. Knowing that the results would only be released at around 1 a.m., I started playing hide-and-seek, Uno game and various cards games with my neighbours. One of the thoughtful residents also made us some pizzas.
I waited till around 1.20a.m whereby Dr. Tan Cheng Bock requested for a recount of votes because his percentage of voters was merely 2% away from Dr. Tony Tan.  I felt that my eyelids were heavy and my muscles could no longer support it. I could no longer seat straight. My mother brought me back home and returned back to the link hall. I lay flat on my bed and stayed there motionless for the next few hours. I did not even have the chance to care about my personal hygiene.
When I woke up in the morning, I found out that the crowd in the link hall had already dispersed. I missed the result! All my family members were still snoring away in their cozy bed. I switch on the television and found out the results. It was none other than Dr. Tony Tan. Although I am still informed of the results but I was still disappointed as I missed the moment. The moment when the results were released, their reactions, expressions and feelings which would be seen through their actions.

THE RESULTS:
Tan Cheng Bock---34.85%
Tan Jee Say---25.04%
Tony Tan---35.19%
Tan Kin Lian---4.19%

UNFORGETABLE 2009 NATIONAL DAY PARADE
As usual, every nine August of the year, my family and I will sit in front of the television and glue our eyes to it for the entire two hours. The theme for this year is none other than “Majulah!” According to my student handbook, majulah means onwards. The parade started with the marching in of various armies and uniformed organization, which was followed by the commander seeking for Mr. President’s permission to carry on with the parade. Soon, everyone rose as a form of respect to the arising flag. Although I was not there at the parade, but I think I should also stand to be respectful since I am also a part of Singapore. The parade then led us to an interesting skit performed by some of the Mediacorp actors, reminding me of the NDP preview that I attended two years ago.
I was still primary five then. We went to Raffles Place via SMRT. As a safety precaution, three teachers were assigned to my class who led us to the Admiratly MRT station. We went in through the staff gantry and sat quietly on the platform, attracting a lot of commuters’ attentions and some of them even took photos of us. I felt very awkward. When the train arrived, we were only entitled to one carriage per class so all of us have to squeezed and sit on the floor or seats but not allowed to stand. The ride was smooth and we reached there within 20 minutes. We settled down at the green section of the audience seats with our National Day Parade bag, eating our cold and soggy dinner while waiting for it to begin. The theme was “Come Together – Reaching Out, Reaching Up”. I waved and sang along the theme song “What do you see?” with the others. I really enjoyed that night because it was the first time celebrating national day at The Float at Marina with my friends instead in school. Most importantly, I was able to experience the enthusiasm and excitement in the atmosphere which was the same as what I noticed in the television. Although the themes for both years are different but the message that the organizers wanted to pass is forever the same. The message is that we should not take the fact that we are in a racial-harmony country for granted and the aim will be to let Singaporeans know how the country gains independence

MY FIRST TRIP TO KUALA

LUMPUR
My first trip to Kuala Lumpur was not easy.My family and I were unsure of the road to get there so we decided to go together with our cousins from Malaysia. Firstly, we took a long six hours car ride to reach Malacca. Under their lead, we reached the train station. It looked deserted as there were only a few tourists. Unlike Singapore, everyone uses the MRT as public transport and owns an ezlink card. In Malaysia, only tourists would take the ride as there are only a few destinations and paper card are purchased for every ride. I looked forward to this ride for a long time. I waited excitedly for entrance and wondered if it would look like LRT since it is known as LRT too. The platform was HUGE with about two railway tracks. I hoped on the long and wide train, minding the gaps in between. There is more standing space but the air-conditional was not turned on. Although it is known as train but the ride was not smooth but jerky. I felt as if I was taking an “upgraded” KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu). Right after we alighted, we rushed to the well-known Twin Tower but we were late for the visiting hours. Hence, we went to KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre). It was clean and grand with a lot of commuter. Luckily, air-condition was on or else I will be suffocated. At night, we visited the Night Festival where lots of sophisticated artworks were displayed.

Twin Tower

Made of thousands of plates

While we were admiring, I saw a young boy seemed to be lost; tears rolled down his little cheeks. I took closer steps to him, wanting to lend him a helping hand. My cousin and I helped him up by calling for his mother. Fortunately, we were able to contact her and gave our location. Suddenly, I saw a frantic woman dashing out and carried the boy before running away. We were taken aback by the woman rude and ingratitude behavior but still felt happy after doing a good deed.
